Mary Elias, Friend of Our Chalet It has been 42 years since my first World Center experience and I am struck with how far through time and how many girls have been impacted by the vision of my Girl Scout leader, Betsy. She tirelessly promoted the value of international travel to girls and parents with often limited exposure to their own country, let alone the wider world. She had endless patience for, and confidence in, teenage girls to do the things and go to places they thought impossible. Thank you, Betsy, for what you did then and influencing me to this day. My continued involvement in the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is because I want to provide today’s girls with the same types of experiences that Betsy provided for me.
Ann Killeen, Friend of Our Cabaña I first went to Our Cabaña in 2004 with my daughter, Kristina, and her troop. While Kristina had a good international experience, this trip changed my life. I became a member of the Friends of Our Cabaña and I have visited Our Cabaña almost every year since. My daughter, Natasha, has joined me twice at Our Cabaña and we love visiting the pyramids. I feel safe and cared for when I am there. I enjoy experiencing Mexican culture which is colorful and sincere. I love being a member of a community of amazing women that support international experiences for girls and adults.
Debi Willis, Friend of Our Cabaña I first visited Our Cabaña in 2008 for a session called “Mexico through Guiding Eyes”. We toured Mexico City and then traveled to Our Cabaña. Walking through the blue Chief’s Door into what I saw as Oz was an amazing experience. Everything about Our Cabaña was fresh, colorful, friendly, impactful and empowering. I joined as a Friend of Our Cabaña in 2010 because the friendships formed are life long, the service projects are meaningful, and what it has meant to me has cemented a deep seated desire to continue the Girl Scout mission of creating girls of courage, character, and confidence who make the world a better place. I love being a part of an organization that is so aware that that we are all part of a global community.
