The World Foundation’s mission is to support projects and programs undertaken by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts of the USA, “to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world”.

The World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit organization established in 1971 and granted 501(c)(3) status by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The two Members of the World Foundation are the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (“WAGGGS”) and the Girl Scouts of the USA (“GSUSA”). The Board of Directors, consisting of 9 - 15 members, meets at least two times each year to conduct the business of the Foundation.

  • Work in partnership with and support WAGGGS and GSUSA in reaching their strategic goals and priorities and raise funds to support global initiatives
  • Provide opportunities and resources for girls and young women to grow, learn and contribute through global engagement
  • Work in partnership with existing Friends committees to expand and diversify their membership in support of the changing needs of WAGGGS and GSUSA
  • Promote international experiences and global awareness for girls and adults within GSUSA councils
  • Provide effective vehicles of communication, including brand messaging, to deliver the message of the World Foundation’s mission and initiatives
  • Provide effective fundraising and development efforts, including donor recognition, to assure support of current and future needs
  • Exercise fiduciary responsibility over budget and resources to support the World Foundation and its mission
  • Award, track and evaluate grants to support WAGGGS and GSUSA

The World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Inc. has two Members, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) and the World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The World Foundation exists to support the mission and work of these two organizations. Members have the responsibility of appointing directors to the World Foundation’s Board of Directors.
